Scientists of East England University have discovered bacteria that feed on oil. It lives in the deepest part of the World Ocean – the Mariana Trench, Phys.org reports.
“We know more about Mars than about the deepest part of the ocean,” said the leading researcher, Professor Xiao-Hua Zhang from Ocean University of Chinao.
A group of researchers collected samples in the deepest part of the Mariana Trench (about 36,000 feet deep) and have discovered a new group of bacteria that decompose hydrocarbons, which are the main components of substances such as natural gas and oil.
As The Journalist reported, a colony of bacterias feed on nuclear energy was discovered.
