President Ursula von der Leyen has appointed Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight, as the EU’s representative and Co-Chair of the Joint Committee. This was reported on the website of the European Commission.
“The Joint Committee is made up of representatives from both the EU and the UK and is responsible for overseeing the implementation and application of the Withdrawal Agreement. One of its many tasks include setting out a mechanism to resolve possible disputes over the interpretation of the Agreement. If such a scenario were to occur, the EU and the UK can refer each other to this Committee,” the message says.
It is specified that Mr. Šefčovič will naturally work in close coordination with Michel Barnier and the Task Force on Relations with the United Kingdom.
