The highest legislative body of Lithuania has awarded seven Lithuanian partisans who fought against the Soviet regime.

As reported on the website of the Lithuanian Seimas, the chairman of the Freedom Award Commission Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė during the awards ceremony called the partisans freedom fighters who resisted the Soviet occupation.

“They were ordinary people, but their strong spirit allows them to be seen from unusual side. They are bold, free, blessing Lithuania. And this is a victory that you finally confirmed on January 13, on the Day of the Defender of Freedom,” noted Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė.

Juozas Jakavonis, Jonas Kadženis, Jonas Abukauskas, Branislavas Juospaitis, Vytautas Balsis, Juozas Mocius and Jonas Cheponis have received awards.
