Chief Financial Officer at Nord Stream 2 AG, Paul Corcoran said at the World Gas Congress, that the construction of Nord Stream-2 will begin this summer even without Denmark’s permission, and will end on time.
Mr Corcoran commented on the proposal of the Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen to discuss the Nord Stream-2 project at the pan-European level, in order to analyze all risks and the role of Ukraine as transit country for gas.
«It seems to me, that this decision belongs to the competence of the Government of Denmark. They have their own law. We applied for a permit because we believe this is the best route. Now Denmark is to decide whether to allow or prohibit», – said the company’s financial officer.
According to Corcoran, «if the government of Denmark will not approve the gas pipeline to be laying in its territorial waters, then it will be necessary to change the route. The most likely option is to lay gas pipeline in the international waters north of Denmark», «Interfax-Ukraine» reported.
In addition, contractors can begin construction of the gas pipeline at any time, regardless of weather conditions. The company has reserved 5 ships, which means there is a fleet that gives flexibility to lay the pipeline in different parts of the Baltic Sea.
Paul Corcoran stressed, that the construction can begin before they receive permission from Denmark.
«The Germany, Finland and Sweden have already issued such permissions. A few weeks ago we started the preparatory work on the seabed. We have permits for almost 90% of the route, the route through Denmark is only 10%», – the CFO stressed.
As «The Journalist» reported, US criticized Germany’s position on the «North Stream-2».
