The head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) Yevhen Kravtsov has said that for the first time a transit container train from China to Poland passed through Ukraine.

“The rail transit is back, as a symbolism in the new year. The first container train was traveling from China to the European Union about 39 hours and 54 minutes through the territory of Ukraine! For the first time, the train go on a wide LHS gauge without overload at the border. Our colleagues met it in Polish city Slawkow,” the head of the Ukrzaliznytsia said.

To Kravtsov, the China-EU transit route through Ukraine is reliable, cheap and convenient for all participants of this logistics chain, and the train is a good sign for Ukrzaliznytsia in matter of organizing large-scale projects with China and Central Asia.

“The wide track, which is used by Ukrzaliznytsia, is the longest in the west. In addition, we have a number of undoubted advantages for such routes and their development, and in the future Ukrzaliznytsia can be part of the land route, the sea route,” he said.

Kravtsov also added that transit from China to the EU countries has a number of artificial barriers with political coloring.

“This is not a matter of business, but of geopolitics. For its part, Ukrzaliznytsia is the most reliable partner for transit. Therefore, we offer alternative and profitable routes. On technical issues: the container train left China Xi’an for Slawkow, the travel time is 12 days. Xi’an is the former capital of China, the historic Silk Road began here. The population of it is 13 million people, and this is one of the most developed dry ports and logistics centers of the New Silk Road,” the head of UZ said.
