The square in Spanish Madrid, where the Ukrainian embassy is located, was named after Ukrainian writer Lesya Ukrainka, the Ukrainian Embassy in Spain informs.

“In honor of great daughter of the Ukrainian people and her contribution to the development of world culture, the mayor’s office of the city of Madrid named the square, where Ukrainian Embassy is located, after Lesya Ukrainka, and also supported the proposal of the diplomatic institution of Ukraine to establish a monument to the poetess on this square,” Ukrainian Embassy said.

Recently, the Spanish writer José Andrés Alvaro Ocáriz published the book “Lesya Ukrainka, the soul of Ukraine” dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the poetess. It includes a collection of her works translated in Spanish.

This is one of a series of his books about outstanding people in Spain and the world. Last year, Ocariz published a book about Taras Shevchenko, which also includes translations of his works into Spanish.
