The Spanish government has announced the start of aid payments for needy citizens as part of basic income program, DW reports.
“About 27,000 households with 255,000 people in Spain will receive the first payments on June 26 as part of the adopted basic income program, designed to support the population amid coronavirus pandemic,” said Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
To him, assistance will range from EUR 462 to EUR 1,015 per month, depending on the size of the household.
Persons aged from 23 to 65, who have been self-employed for at least three years, have made contributions to the social insurance fund for at least a year, and whose income does not exceed EUR 230 per month, will be able to receive assistance.
The program will amount to EUR 3.5 billion per year.
