U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Ambassador Kurt Volker notes that establishment of peace in the east of Ukraine and the real implementation of the Minsk agreements depend on Moscow’s decision.
The diplomat stated this in a keynote to the OSCE Annual Security Review Conference, held on Tuesday, June 26, in Vienna (Austria), UNIAN reported.
Mr Volker noted the recent renewed efforts to revive the process of implementation of the Minsk Agreements, which involved Normandy partners – France and Germany. Volker stressed that «the U.S. fully supports those efforts».
He also said that the Minsk agreements have all the necessary conditions for the peaceful settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine.
«However, no progress was achieved in the implementation of the Minsk agreements in the last four years», – Volker added.
To solve the problems it was proposed to deploy a peacekeeping forces with the UN mandate which should «replace the Russian forces and ensure security in the territory».
As «The Journalist» reported, a ceasefire will start in Donbas from July 1 in connection with the harvesting season.
