Assistant to the U.S. President for National Security Affairs John Bolton said that the recognition of the annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea by Russia is «not the position of the US» and sanctions against the Russian Federation should remain in force.

Mr Bolton said this at the press conference in Moscow, UNIAN reported.

«That’s not the position of the United States», – Bolton said after being asked if U.S. President Donald Trump recognizes Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

At the same time Bolton stressed that the subject of the sanctions did come up in Moscow.

«I want to say that the U.S. position remains the same: sanctions should stay in place. And this issue can be raised at the European Council meeting», – he said.

At the same time, according to the assistant the forthcoming US-RF summit is in the interest of both the US and Russia and will serve to strengthen peace and security around the world.

As «The Journalist» reported, it became known where and when Trump and Putin will meet.
