The US has imposed new sanctions on Iran. The second wave of measures came into force today, November 5th.
The sanctions are aimed at oil and banking industries: Washington bans purchase of Iranian oil and doing business with Iranian oil companies. In addition, sanctions also apply to shipping and shipbuilding sectors of Iran’s economy.
Sanctions affect the third countries companies which doing business with Iran. Such firms will now be denied to access US financial system and will not be able to make deals in US dollars. The German’s companies business in Iran is also under threat. US President Donald Trump called the new sanctions «the toughest sanctions regime ever imposed,» Deutsche Welle reported.
Iran responded by complaining to the UN International Court of Justice, and has also announced that if the Iranian oil export would be blocked, Iran would block the oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz (it is about 20% of total world oil exports).
