The head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the Patriarch of Kyiv and all Russia-Ukraine Filaret said that the United Local Orthodox Church in Ukraine, which will be formed at the Unity Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches, will have an official name – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and another name – Kyiv patriarchy.
«It will have official name: the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and the second name is the Kyiv Patriarchate. As for misunderstandings, everyone has misunderstandings, but misunderstandings can be resolved. If the Autocephalous Church (UAOC) has questions regarding the Kyiv Patriarchate, we will find ways of mutual understanding,» UNIAN news agency quotes Patriarch Filaret as saying.
In turn, the press secretary of the UOC-KP, the archbishop of Chernihiv and Nizhyn Evstratiy (Zorya) has clarified that the «all local Orthodox churches, except for the ancient patriarchates (which were called after the city) have practically the same name structure – Romanian Orthodox Church , Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Serbian Orthodox Church, Cyprus Orthodox Church etc. Since in Ukraine a united local Orthodox church is formed, respectively, the name will be the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.»
