Steel production in Ukraine decreased by 30%

According to report by the WorldSteel Manufacturers Association, steel output in Ukraine decreased by 30.9%, or to 1.399 million tons in April, 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

In April, a drop in steel production was recorded in most top ten countries, except for China and Vietnam. In April, 64 countries produced 137.098 million tons of steel, which is 13% less than in April-2019.

According to the results of April, the top ten steel producing countries are as follows:

  • China (85.033 million tons, an increase of 0.2%),
  • Japan (6.617 million tons, a drop of 23.5%),
  • South Korea (5.5 million tons, minus 8.4%),
  • USA (4.968 million tons, a decrease of 32.5%),
  • RF (4.7 million tons, minus 19.4%),
  • India (3.137 million tons, a decrease of 65.2%),
  • Germany (3 million tons, minus 10.7%),
  • Turkey (2.245 million tons, a decrease of 26.3%,
  • Vietnam (1.946 million tons, an increase of 4.2%),
  • Brazil (1.811 million tons, a 39% drop).

A list is followed by Iran (1.790 million tons, a decrease of 17.8%), Taiwan (China, 1.650 million tons, a minus 16.3%), Mexico (1.450 million tons, a decline of 12.1%), Italy (1.350 million tons, a drop of 30.7%) and Ukraine (1.399 million tons, minus 30.9%).

Acting Energy Minister: Electricity import from Russia, Belarus cost USD 186m to Ukraine.
