On October 20, the Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov, together with scientists and researchers, presented to President Volodymyr Zelensky the results of the preclinical phase of the study of the original Ukrainian candidate for the coronavirus vaccine, the Ministry of Health reports.

The studies lasted six months and confirmed the neutralization of coronavirus in infected human cells. This original Ukrainian vaccine candidate is being created based on a unique approach.

During the meeting the parties also discussed the timing of the clinical phases, the format for future cooperation of all involved departments to ensure the development of the vaccine and its use in case of successful completion of all phases. In turn, the head of state said that the state will support the development of this vaccine.

“We are talking about high chances of developing our unique original Ukrainian coronavirus vaccine, and about the first step towards restoring vaccine production in Ukraine,” Zelensky said.

According to one of the developers – an international expert in the field of healthcare and epidemiology, Doctor of Medical Sciences Mykhailo Favorov, the current development suggests that the future drug will help fight new types of coronavirus infections that are constantly mutating. He also added that it is a very positive fact that so far in Ukraine there has been no jump in mortality compared to the increase in the number of patients.
