On Wednesday, July 11, the German federal prosecutor’s office charged an Iranian diplomat, 46-year-old Assadollah Assadi, with working as a foreign spy and conspiracy to commit murder.
The Iranian was detained after Belgian police issued a European Arrest Warrant against him. At the moment he is in jail, DW news agency reported.
According to the police, Assadolla A. instructed a Belgian-Iranian couple to carry out a bomb attack in a suburb of Paris, during an annual event involving the Iranian opposition.
He is also suspected of giving to the pair a device containing 500 grams of triacetone tripperoxide explosive. Belgian police detained them on their way to France, on the day they were allegedly planning to carry out the attack.
It is reported, that Assadollah A. was an employee of the Iranian Embassy in Vienna. In addition, he, apparently, worked for Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security. In particular, this department is tasked with intensive surveillance and struggle against the opposition inside and outside the Islamic Republic.
