Spanish court drops arrest warrant and extradition request for Puigdemont

Yesterday, on July 19, the Spanish Supreme Court has withdrawn requests to extradite six Catalan politicians, which had fled Spain, as they were accused for rebellion.

Among the Catalan politicians is the former head of the regional government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, who fled from Spain and is now in Germany, Deutsche Welle reported.

Note that in July 12, Federal Supreme Court of Schleswig-Holstein Land allowed to extradite Puigdemont to Spain, but only on a charge related to misuse of public funds, meaning he could not have been tried for rebellion in Spain.

As «The Journalist» reported, a new head of government – the successor of Puigdemont was elected in Catalonia.
