Employees of the Louvre Abu Dhabi in the UAE do not know where the painting “The Savior of the World” by Leonardo da Vinci is the most expensive work of art in history.
According to The New York Times, the whereabouts of the canvas is unknown and the employees of the Paris Louvre, who are in contact with colleagues from Abu Dhabi and the French authorities.
The picture was supposed to put in the Louvre Abu Dhabi in September last year, but then the authorities of the capital of the UAE for unknown reasons, postponed the show.
It is noted that the “Savior of the World” went under the hammer in November 2017 for $ 400 million, and taking into account all taxes, the total amount was 450.3 million. The buyer was the Saudi prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan Al Saud.
The picture dates from about 1500 year. The first mentions of the work belong to the collection of King Charles I of England (1600-1649). The next mention was in 1763, when the illegitimate son of the count of Buckingham, Karl Sheffield, put the painting up for auction. Since then, the canvas disappeared almost a half century, until it appeared in the collection of one of the richest people in England, Frederick Cook. Then the experts attributed the work to the brush of one of the students of Da Vinci.
Earlier, the “Journalist” reported that the cave, painted by the exiled Templars, is under threat of destruction.
