British journalist Brian Walden, the author of the first interview with Margaret Thatcher as prime minister of Great Britain, died at the age of 86. According to The Guardian, he died on May 9 at his home in Guernsey.

Work in leading political television program Weekend World on the channel ITV brought Walden fame and popularity. However, initially he was a member of the British Parliament for a long time. Only in 1977, after more than 10 years of political career, Walden decided to become a journalist and work on television.

The Guardian obituary notes that Walden was “the most respected interviewer of British television” in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century. One of the secrets of the success of his dialogues with politicians was considered past experience in parliament – he understood exactly how to ask questions.

Earlier, the “Journalist” reported that a well-known human rights activist journalist died.
