On May 10, 5 years ago, a film director and a writer, the winner of Sakharov Prize “For Freedom of Thought” and Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine Oleg Sentsov, reports Ukrinform.
Sentsov was detained in Crimea in May 2014. He was sentenced in Russia to 20 years of imprisonment on charges of planning terrorist attacks in the annexed Crimea. The director is serving his term in the far north of the Russian Federation in Labytnangi.
In May 2018, Sentsov announced a hunger strike demanding the release of all political prisoners in the Kremlin. He refused to eat for 145 days.
In connection with the anniversary of the arrest of Sentsov from the monument to Yaroslav the Wise at the Golden Gates, a symbolic procession starts to the 14 embassies of the Council of Europe member countries located in Kiev. During the action “Do you remember?” The activists will give each embassy a letter from the Ukrainian hostages of the Kremlin.
Also, by the 5th anniversary of the arrest of Oleg Sentsov, the action “Plant flowers, not people” is planned. It will pass on the street of Michael Hrushevsky.
Participation in the action, in particular, will be taken by director Ahtem Seitablaev, writer Andrii Kurkov, actress Rimma Zyubina, musician Andrii Khlyvnyuk, scientist Ihor Kozlovsky and others.
Earlier, the “Journalist” reported that a collection of autobiographical stories by Sentsov was published in Berlin.
