US President Donald Trump signed a Directive to start the creation of the US Space Forces, the press service of the White House informs.
“Space is integral to our way of life, our national security, and modern warfare. Potential adversaries are now advancing their space capabilities and actively developing ways to deny our use of space in a crisis or conflict,” the document says.
It is assumed that the space forces will become the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces – an independent formation in the US defense system along with ground forces, the navy, marines, aviation and coast guard.
The Pentagon will present the budget of the Space Forces over the next 180 days.
