US President Donald trump offered French leader Emmanuel Macron to the bargain in exchange for the country’s withdrawal from the European Union.
According to some sources, Trump floated the idea of France’s withdrawal from the EU to Macron during a private conversation, while the French president was visiting the White House in April. Trump directly asked Macron: «Why don’t you leave the EU?».
Also, Trump offered Macron a bilateral trade deal to France with better terms than those given to the EU. The White House did not dispute the officials’ account, but declined to comment, Newsru reported.
The sources reported that during this private conversation, Trump told Macron that the EU’s trade sphere is «worse than China’s».
Recall that, during his speech in North Dakota, Trump said: «The European Union was set up to take advantage of the United States, to attack our piggy bank» and recalled that the US had a $150 billion trade deficit with the EU last year.
