U.S. President Donald Trump said that the Finance Minister David Malpass, Trump’s supporter, critic of international financial institutions and a supporter of their reform to be the next president of World Bank Group (WB).

The candidacy of Malpass (a high-ranking employee of the US Treasury) should be approved by the World Bank’s Board of Governors, which represents the interests of 188 shareholder countries, Voice of America reports.

The United States is the largest shareholder of the World Bank (16% of the share capital) and traditionally hold her candidate for the presidency post of this international credit organization.

It is noted that the very fact of nominating Malpass (who bypassed other bidders, including the former PepsiCo CEO, Indra Nooyi, and the president of the United States Foreign Private Investment Corporation Ray Washburn) for this position, suggests that the Trump’s administration wants to achieve tighter control over the lead global development creditor’s activities.

"He struggled to ensure that funding will be focused on specific locations and on projects that really need support and will be aimed at people living in extreme poverty," said Trump.

As The Journalist reported, US Senate adopted sanctions against Syria and her allies – Russia and Iran.
