US President Donald Trump said he had suspended the provision of funds to Ukraine due to its high level of corruption.
Trump said this at a joint press conference with President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinisto, Reuters reports.
According to him, Ukraine was known as a country with a high level of corruption long before Zelensky was elected as president.
“Ukraine is rated as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. And I don’t like giving money to a country that’s that corrupt,” Trump said.
Trump emphasized that his July phone conversation with Zelensky dealt with corruption in Ukraine, saying the United States gives the country a lot of money.
The US president reiterated that European countries should provide Ukraine with more help.
