The Washington Post published material claiming that US President Donald Trump decided to frozen military assistance to Ukraine shortly before a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25.
With reference to anonymous White House officials, the publication infoms that “Donald Trump ordered to Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff, to freeze almost USD 400 million of military assistance for Ukraine at least a week before a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine in July.”
“During the conversation, Trump put pressure on the Ukrainian President to conduct an investigation against the son of former US vice president Joe Biden,” the material says.
The Office of Management and Budget passed this order to the State Department and the Pentagon during an interagency meeting in mid-July.
This decision was explained by the fact that Trump wants to analyze whether it is advisable to spend money on helping Ukraine.
White House staff were instructed to inform Congress that the delay was part of the “interagency process,” but no longer provide additional information.
Such a scheme worked for almost 2 months, until the US Presidential Administration lifted financial restrictions on the night of September 11.
“Trump’s order to delay Ukraine’s assistance a week before a telephone conversation with Zelensky on July 25 is likely to raise the question of the motivation for his decision and raise suspicions on Capitol Hill about trying to use Congressional-approved help to pressure his political rival,” The Washington Post writes.
As The Journalist reported, U.S. State Department refuses to disclose contents of Zelensky-Trump conversation.
