Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov has announced that about 200 billion UAH will be allocated in 2019 for Ukraine’s defense and security.
Turchynov said this at a meeting on the 2019 Ukraine’s defense budget planning, according to the press service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
According to the forecast of the Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019 may be UAH 3,946 billion, Turchynov said.
«Therefore, the financing of the security and defense sector of Ukraine, which shall not be less than 5% of GDP, will amount to about UAH 200 billion,» – he said.
«One of the important priorities of the defense budget is ensuring social guarantees for servicemen like increase in their monetary security, which is necessary to preserve the professional core of the Armed Forces, the National Guard and other security agencies,» – the NSDC secretary stressed.
According to Turchynov, after the formation of defense budget, it should be approved at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council and transferred to the Cabinet.
