On the anniversary of the deportation of Crimean Tatars, Turkey expresses its support for the Crimean Tatars and condemns the annexation of Crimea by Russia. This was stated by the speaker of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the Turkish Daily Sabah reports.

The Turkish ministry recalled that 76 years ago, the Crimean Tatars were forcibly deported from the Crimea under inhuman conditions.

“Most of the 250,000 Crimean Tatars lost their lives either during deportation or in exile. For decades, the Crimean Tatars have not had the opportunity to return to their homeland – the Crimean Peninsula after the exile in 1944,” the speaker said.

Turkey stated that they support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and honor the memory of the Circassian genocide who died during the Russian-Caucasian war in 1864.

On May 18, Ukraine and the world remember the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people – on this day in 1944, Stalin began the deportation of Crimean Tatars from the Crimea.

According to the decree of the Verkhovna Rada No.792-VIII dated December 12, 2015, the deportation of the Crimean Tatars in 1944 was recognized as genocide, and May 18 is the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide.
