The Turkish Central Election Commission has cancelled the results of Istanbul’s recent mayoral race. In the last election, for the first time in many years an opposition representative won, Anadolu reports.

A new vote to be held in the city on June 23. Prior to this, the CEC recognized the victory of the candidate, Ekrem Imamoglu of the Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP): he assumed the post of mayor of Istanbul on April 17.

The reason for calling early elections in Turkey was the petition of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its ally, the ultra-right Party of the nationalist movement. According to their information, about 40,000 people, who did not have the right to vote, participated in the elections, as well as the workers of the majority of polling stations were appointed to bypass the rules.

As The Journalist reported, Turkey will supply cooling thermal imagers to Ukraine.
