The President of the European Council Donald Tusk said that the first visit of the President of Ukraine Zelensky to Brussels was a very significant signal.

“The fact that you’re visiting the capital of the European Union and the headquarters of NATO on your first foreign trip is a strong and important signal,” Tusk said.

At the same time, according to the President of Ukraine, the summit scheduled for July 8 will provide an opportunity to “give a new impetus to the relations between Ukraine and the EU”.

“We had the opportunity to exchange views on the strategic vision of Ukraine – EU relations, as well as urgent short-term priorities. After all, on July 8, I will be glad to greet you and all our European partners in Ukraine at the Ukraine-EU summit,” Zelensky said.

In his turn, Tusk stressed that the Ukraine-EU summit would identify priorities for the development of bilateral relations in the upcoming years.

“The summit will set the priorities for our relations in the year ahead. Our joint decision is to hold the summit, as planned, and we have also agreed to remain in close contact with the President. [Zelensky],” said Tusk.

Tusk also assured Zelensky that Ukraine could rely on the EU.

“We are and will remain your best friend and trusted ally,” the president of the European Council said.

As The Journalist reported, Zelensky stated about inadmissibility of dialogue with Ukraine from a position of strength.
