U.S. Congress agreed on a defense budget for 2020. It provides for allocation of USD 300 million aid to Ukraine, The New York Times reports.
Generally the defense budget of the U.S. for the next year is USD 738 billion, and about USD 658.4 billion will go to the national security programs of the U.S. Department of Defense and Energy, USD 71.5 billion will finance ongoing foreign wars and USD 5.3 billion for emergency financing of liquidation of consequences of natural disasters.
The law provides for the allocation of USD 300 million to promote Ukraine’s security, including the provision of lethal means of defense, “as well as new governing bodies for coastal defense cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles.”
The draft defense budget, among other things, involves the imposition of sanctions on Russian energy sector and contains a number of provisions aimed at overcoming potential threats from China.
The law will be adopted by the end of 2019.
