U.S. ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell has said America introduced pro-European against companies that are involved in the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
He noted this in an interview with the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Deutsche Welle reports.
“15 European countries, the European Commission and the European Parliament all expressed their concerns about the project,” the ambassador emphasized.
According to Grenell, sanctions against the construction of a second gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea is a very ‘pro-European’ decision.
The ambassador also added that many European diplomats thanked the U.S. Administration for taking this action.
It is known that sanctions on Nord Stream 2 fit into the long-term US strategy, which goes back to the Barack Obama Administration. Washington seeks to prevent a situation where “one country or one source has a great energy influence on Europe.”
