U.S. Senate allocates USD 10m to prepare for nuclear tests

The United States Senate Armed Services Committee has approved an amendment to the draft defense budget for the next fiscal year, which begins on October 1. The changes involve USD 10 million carry out projects related to amendment, The Hill reports.

The amendment aimed to reduce the time required to execute a nuclear test. The executive director of the Arms Control Association Daryl Kimball said conducting of a nuclear test would be “beyond reckless.” He believes that this could trigger nuclear testing by other states and cause a new nuclear arms race in which everyone would come out a loser.

Recall that an underground nuclear explosion at a Nevada test site was carried out in September 1992 last time.
