The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the first Arab state to launch a space probe to Mars. The launch took place today, July 20, from the Space Center on Tanegashima Island, DW reports.
The launch was postponed several times due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The space mission is planned to reach Mars in February 2021 and orbit the planet for two years.
The mission aimed to study the atmosphere, climatic conditions and changes in the seasons. For the first time, the space probe will study the lower atmosphere where Martian weather forms, including dust storms.
The spacecraft is equipped with three cameras designed to observe Mars atmosphere in the visible, infrared and ultraviolet ranges.
