UK Supreme Court to hold hearings on so-called “Yanukovych loan”

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom will hold hearings in the framework of the lawsuit between Russia and Ukraine regarding the so-called “Yanukovych loan”, worth USD 3 billion.

The appeal has been filed by The Law Debenture Trust Corporation plc, representing the interests of Russia.

The court noted that this decision was made in response to the appeal of Ukraine, which claims that the loan was obtained under political pressure, UNIAN reports.

Recall that the High Court of London began consideration of Russia’s claim against Ukraine on the latter’s eurobonds worth USD 3 billion. Ukraine considers the loan as the Kremlin’s “bribe” paid to the former Ukrainian authorities for rejecting Ukraine’s European aspirations, while the Russian side insists on the repayment on the loan.
