South Korean carmaker Hyundai will build the UK’s first eVTOL airport. The facility will be located in Coventry and, according to Hyundai, will serve as a test site for future projects in the new air taxi market, reported by New Atlas.
The Air-One project was developed jointly by engineers from Hyundai and Urban Air Port.
“We will provide innovative ground infrastructure as a service for the air mobility of the future. The ultra-compact, rapidly deployable, multifunctional operations center for manned and unmanned vehicles will provide aircraft control, charging/refueling, cargo and passenger loading and other functions,” Hyundai said.
It is assumed that the take-off area will be 40 meters in diameter and provides for the landing of various types of future electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.
The first site at Coventry is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
