In order for Ukraine to maintain gas transit through its territory, which is under threat due to the construction of bypass gas pipelines by Russia, it is necessary to motivate consumers in Europe to cooperate with Ukraine.
This was stated by the head of the supervisory board of "Naftogaz of Ukraine" Claire Spottiswood, reports Unian.
“There are many proofs that Russia is building pipelines in order not to transport gas through the territory of Ukraine, and it is quite possible that in a year after the expiration of the contract with Gazprom, gas will not be pumped through Ukraine. And this is a significant material loss. It is necessary to motivate consumers in Europe to cooperate with Ukraine. If this is done, then the preservation of transit will be more likely and this is important not only for Ukraine, but also for European consumers,” said Spottiswood.
At the same time, the head of the Naftogaz supervisory board noted that this is a serious challenge both for the Ukrainian gas company and for Ukraine as a whole, since it’s not just a matter of commercial use of the pipeline and pumping gas through Ukraine, politics is involved here.
Spottiswood also noted that in order to successfully preserve the transit of gas, Naftogaz will be able to conduct anbanding (division of companies) before the end of 2019.
“Of course, division of companies is possible. Naftogaz took the model of anbanding from the UK. We know what we should do, the main thing is to take and do, we need to complete the whole process before the end of 2019,” the head of the supervisory board emphasized.
