The Ukrainian authorities will consider the issue of suspending Interpol membership in the event that Russian representative Oleksandr Prokopchuk is appointed president.

«The possible presidency of Russia in Interpol is absurd and contrary to the spirit and goals of the organization. In the event that the arguments of Ukraine and a number of other countries are not heard, Ukraine will consider the suspension of its membership in the ICPO», said Interior Minister Arsen Avakov on his page on [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com /photo.php?fbid=2017114445045318&set=a.382483715175074&type=3&theater).

Earlier, the minister noted that the prospect for Russia to lead Interpol will be a "hybrid threat to the whole world."

«We all know well how the Russian Federation is abusing the possibilities of Interpol to fight and persecute political opponents. I can’t admit that we can return to the tragic history of 1938–1945, when Hendrich and Kaltenbrunner led the international police organization, and the headquarters after the Anschluss of Austria were transferred to Berlin», said the head of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
