Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting on pressing issues of development of the military-industrial complex.
During the meeting, Danilov presented to the participants a joint position of the NSDC of Ukraine and the Office of the President of Ukraine on the process of reforming the defense industry and developing relevant long-term and medium-term defense planning documents – “Ways to optimize management functions while formulating and implementing military-industrial policy.”
At the same time, the NSDC secretary noted that this reform should become the largest one in the past 10 years.
According to Danilov, change in approaches to managing the defense industry should address the problem of insufficient coordination of subjects of military-industrial policy, in particular, the lack of a relevant coordinating body, and introduce a systematic approach to this sphere’s development.
“At the first stage of the reform, the relevant ministry will be established. It will be responsible for formulating and ensuring the implementation of state military-industrial policy; and the position of Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Strategic Technologies and Innovation Development will be introduced. He will be responsible for reforming the defense industry and developing the space industry,” the Secretary of the NSDC said.
According to him, the second stage will address issues of the legal form of work of enterprises that are part of the Ukroboronprom.
Danilov noted that the defense industry enterprises should first of all focus on providing the army with modern high-tech weapons and equipment, which will allow them to effectively respond to modern challenges.
