From July 1, the law No. 2617-VIII came into force, which toughens the punishment for driving while intoxicated in Ukraine.
The law provides that the institution of criminal misconduct comes into force on July 1, 2020. The article states that drunk driving, transferring control to intoxicated person, refusing to undergo test or using such substances after an accident is punishable by a fine from 1,000 to 2,000 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (from UAH 17,000 to UAH 35,000) with the deprivation of the right to drive a motor vehicle for up to 3 years.
In case of repeated violation, perpetrators will be fined of up to UAH 51,000 with deprivation of the right to drive a motor vehicle for a period of 2-3 years.
