The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the law introducing amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding military duty and military service (#0906).

A total of 278 MPs backed this decision.

Deputy Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Mariana Bezuhla, said that this law aims to “improve the legislation of Ukraine on military duty.”

According to her, the law introduces new military ranks for the sergeant and petty officers of the Armed Forces, in accordance with NATO standards.

The law enhances the role of non-commissioned and warrant officers in the training and education of subordinate personnel to ensure they perform tasks assigned to them.

The law created additional motivational factors for Ukrainian citizens to undergo military service under the contract, which will facilitate the transition of the Armed Forces to a professional basis.

Among other things, the law provides regiment/brigade renaming and the regiment commander to brigade commander.
