According to the report on the protection of intellectual property rights in the world, published by the European Commission, Ukraine was listed as a priority 2 country.
Today, the most problematic state is China, which continues to be a priority 1 country.
The list also includes India, Turkey, Indonesia and Russia, the Ain publication reports.
It is noted that priority 2 means “serious systemic problems in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, causing significant harm to the European Union business, and there have been made no progress or only limited progress in addressing this concerns compared to the previous year.”
The report says that the main problems in Ukraine are theft of content on the Internet and satellite broadcasting; lack of an effective system for the protection of patents and data in the pharmaceutical business and in the field of plant protection products; problems with the functioning of the collective rights management system, which has a negative impact on the creative industry.
According to the OECD EUIPO study on Trends in the Trade in Counterfeit and Pirated Products dated 2019, Ukraine remains one of the four main transit countries for counterfeit products to the EU market.
Online piracy remains a serious problem for Ukraine. According to the authors of the report, there are many new sites with stolen content in Ukraine due to the “weak current legislation” in the country.
