Ukraine may introduce criminal liability for ‘fake news’

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Ukraine Volodymyr Borodiansky said that it is necessary to introduce criminal liability for deliberate distortion of public opinion by the media.

The minister said this in an interview with Radio NV.

Borodiansky considers manipulation, creation and management of bot farms, distribution of fake information as the means for distortion of public opinion.

The Minister recalled that today Ukraine do not have criminal liability for the spreding fake information in the media. The official is sure that the situation needs to be changed.

“This is, in principle, a more serious responsibility when people distort public opinion for money. Today there is no responsibility for this, but it seems to me that it is necessary to introduce criminal liability in the future,” Borodiansky said.
