President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a speech at the unity forum in Mariupol, outlined that Ukraine will have to go through three stages to achieve peace in Donbas.
To him, this is the ceasefire, reconciliation among people and the real reintegration of territories.
According to the presidential press service, the international experience of armed conflicts and wars proves that there are three integral and consecutive stages on the road to a successful end to war and the rule of peace.
Zelensky said that Ukraine will have to go through all three of these stages, society and every Ukrainian, together. At the first stage, it is necessary to complete the “hot phase” of the conflict and ceasefire.
“We are sure that we will definitely achieve this in the near future. We really want this. This is a very necessary, important, but in fact, only the first step,” the president emphasized.
The second integral stage is the reconciliation among people, the search for consensus.
“This is a very complex and very sensitive, neurosurgical process. It’s like keeping matches near an open canister of gasoline. It’s when one careless move, one wrong statement can cross everything out and resume a hot phase of the conflict. That is why the role of the rhetoric used by the media is crucial in these matters,” Zelensky is convinced.
Zelensky called the safe reintegration the third integral stage, which should be done not on paper.
“There are many world examples where the acute stage of the conflict was stopped and a partial reconciliation occurred. And the main thing did not happen – the returning of the territories. They remained in a different status and, unfortunately, did not return to the composition of state. Are you comfortable with this option for Ukraine? I think not. But the question is rhetorical,” Zelensky emphasized.
As The Journalist reported, disengagement of forces in Petrivske is last step towards Normandy Summit in November.
