Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel has said that Ukraine will annually receive USD 2-3 billion for Russian gas transit over the next five years.
“One of the conditions put up by Ukraine during the negotiations was the payment of USD 2.9 billion from Gazprom by decision of the Stockholm arbitration. We have already received this money,” the minister said.
According to Orzhel, taking into account the fact that the Ukrainian gas transport infrastructure remains fully involved, and new routes for delivering gas to Europe may not be implemented for a long time, Ukraine will receive approximately USD 2-3 billion annually for gas transit over the next five years.
German government welcomed the conclusion of a contract between Ukraine and the Russian Federation for the transit of Russian gas to the EU.
“The federal government welcomes that Gazprom, Naftogaz and the operator of the gas transmission system of Ukraine on signing a new contract on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine concluded after many days of negotiations in Vienna,” the statement said.
In turn, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also expressed satisfaction that negotiations on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, which lasted for a year and a half, were successfully completed.
“The continuation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine from January 1, 2020 is a good and important signal to guarantee the security of gas supplies to Europe,” Merkel noted.
