Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy said the railway connections between Ukraine and Russia provided UAH 3 billion revenues to the state budget of Ukraine in 2018.

The minister emphasized that Ukraine will not close railway links with Russia.

“This is sensitive issue. Let me remind you that in fact the direction to Moscow brought UAH 3 billion revenues to the budget last year and we must understand that when we block something, we find alternative options for these trains to go, and this money will go into the economy of another country,” said Krykliy.

To him, the government has obligations to the World Trade Organization, which provides for transit and Ukraine does not limit it yet.

“If a decision about our isolation will be made at the highest political level, then this will be separately reported. Ukraine-Russia railway connection has not been closed so far,” UNIAN quoted the minister as saying.

According to the passenger trains schedule for 2018-2019, about 20 pairs of trains run from Ukrainian cities to Moscow, as well as a number of direct trains, in particular from Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, etc.
