The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said that one of the domestic enterprises in partnership with a foreign company, developed special magnetometric sensors for UAVs to detect unexploded ordnance.

“The sensors are mounted on a quadcopter, which flies around the designated area at an altitude of 5-10 meters and determines not only the location of explosive objects, but also their contours,” the Defense Ministry noted.

Specialists of the State Research Institute for Testing and Certification of Arms and Military Equipment determined the possibilities of using a drone in mine clearance.

To the head of the department for scientific research and testing of weapons and military equipment of the Air Force, Yuriy Kamak, during the tests, a drone equipped with the sensors correctly identified 82mm and 120mm landmines with centimeter level accuracy. The drone is able to perform tasks both at day and night time.

“The received information can be transmitted both in real time and upon returning from a flight mission, that is, with the help of such information, the operator draws up a map of areas withlandmines,” the department emphasized.

Thus, the use of such drones saves time on reconnaissance, compared with the work of an engineer units using robotics equipment, increases the accuracy in identifying dangerous objects and protects personnel from the unnecessary risks.

As The Journalist reported, Ukrainian army received more than 7,000 units of military equipment in 2019.
