Ukrainian Colonel Yurii Politko died of malaria in Uganda on April 11. Ukrainian officer participated in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported.
On April 8, 2019, he arrived to the city of Goma and was urgently taken to a third-level hospital because of a complaint about sickness. The results of blood tests taken in the hospital showed a high level of malarial plasmodium contents. The officer was diagnosed with malaria disease. The command of the hospital decided to transfer officer to a fourth-level hospital in in Kampala, Uganda. On April 9, a UN Mission plane took the serviceman to the city of Entebbe (Uganda), with the assistance of two medical representatives. From there he was taken to a hospital in the city of Kampala by road.
On April 11, Colonel Yurii Politko died in a hospital of the city of Kampala due to the severe form of the disease.
