The Ukrainian delegation to PACE refused to go to the annual big reception with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland and returned the invitation.
This was reported by the People’s Deputy of Ukraine from the faction of the BPP, the vice-president of the PACE Volodymyr Ariev.
«The Ukrainian delegation refused to go to the annual big reception to the Secretary General of the CoE Jagland, and returned the invitation. In conditions when, due to Russia’s financial blackmail, the Council of Europe saves on paper for documents, it seems not very logical step – to arrange luxurious receptions for hundreds of people», believes Ariev.
According to him, Ukraine voluntarily donated $400 thousand to support the organization in a difficult time, and received no response from Jagland regarding the cost of an annual large reception and the appropriateness of holding it in difficult financial conditions.
«Well, for those who say such situation cannot happen in Europe I can assure you, it certainly can», added Ariev.
In turn, the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko, who is also on a working trip to Strasbourg, stated that the Secretary General of the Council of Europe «all the time complaining about the economic difficulties due to non-payment by the Russiansof their contribution».
As the «Journalist» reported European Council will help Ukraine with credits for € 1 billion.
