The European Broadcasting Union will have to discuss penalties against Ukraine. This was reported by a member of the board of the National Public Broadcasting Company, Oleksandra Koltsova, Ukrop News 24 reports.
According to Koltsova, the Eurovision participation contract has a clause which introduced penalties for non-fulfillment of the contract, since the country carries great risks.
“We would have to refuse from participation in Eurovision and pay fine, the discussion of which is still to come,” said Koltsova.
When asked whether Ukraine should pay a penalty over refusal from participation in Eurovision-2019, Koltsova answered: “It’s not a fact, we can simply broadcast the contest, but we must agree this with the Broadcasting Union. It may even be possible to reduce the cost of rights for broadcasting for Ukraine due to the fact that we do not participate in it. But you know, we have big debts to the Broadcasting Union, and it’s probably also very difficult for them to understand our position.”
