The Ukrzaliznytsia JSC (UZ) will receive 110 locomotives with a traction motor from the French engineering company Alstom by 2025.
This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Yurii Lavreniuk.
“The renewal of the railway fleet with 495 locomotives until 2029 is strategic for UZ. The first 110 Ukrainian-French locomotives with a traction motor should be running on the Ukrainian railway until 2025,” Lavreniuk said.
According to the Deputy Minister, a large intergovernmental project provides for the localization of production and maintenance in Ukraine with the Ukrainian enterprises involved.
“Now we are considering several locations for joint production, in particular, Zaporizhzhia Electric Locomotive Repair Plant and Lviv Locomotive Repair Plant,” Lavreniuk stressed.
The memorandum between Alstom and Ukrzaliznytsia was signed on September 19, 2018.
Lavreniuk stated that the next step would be an agreement at the presidential and government levels of Ukraine and France.
“Together with Finance Minister Oksana Markarova, we are currently negotiating with the French colleagues in terms of getting better conditions from the treasury and creditors. It is a powerful and ambitious project for the Ukrainian infrastructure development, the creation of thousands of new jobs, the development of new railway routes and the attracting hundreds of millions of euros to Ukraine’s economy,” the Deputy Minister wrote.
As The Journalist reported, 30 extra summer trains are scheduled by Ukrzaliznytsia.
