Igor Smelyansky, Acting Director General of PJSC Ukrposhta (since April 2016), is set to resign, the Center for Transport Strategies reports.

«I have applied a resignation letter, dated August 31, so that the government has time to think and make a decision, either to prolong the contract with me on adequate terms, or terminate it, which is also normal. There will be enough time for the transition period so that I can hand over my keys, office, and table,» – said Smelyansky.

According to the Head of Ukrposhta, he offered to the government following conditions under which he is ready to extend the contract: an opportunity to form his own team, guarantee of political independence, a possibility of implementing radical «shock» reforms and a clear strategy.

«The Government should publicly announce that it support my strategy. I gave to the Government the right to choose,» – Smelyansky explained his position.

According to Mr Smelyansky, he continues to work as usual until August 31.

He also noted that his further acting as a Ukrposhta’s head is supported by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Volodymyr Omelyan.

As «The Journalist» reported, Poroshenko categorically opposes to reduction of branches of Ukrposhta in the villages.
