UN: Over 1,000 mine-related casualties recorded since 2014 in Donbas

More than 1,000 people were killed in mine explosions since the beginning of the war in Donbas in 2014. This was reported by the UN on Twitter.

Landmines became the main cause of casualties among children in 2018. It is also specified that almost half of civilian casualties are mine-related.

“Ukraine: since 2014, more than 1,000 people were killed by mines and other explosive devices, remnants of World War II. In 2018, 43% of civilian casualties were mine-related. Landmines were the main cause of casualties among children in 2018 and still poses a threat to people’s lives,” the message says.

According to the UN, the number of victims of war in Donbas, as of October 31, totals more than 40,000 people; more than 13,000 of them were killed. Death toll among civilians reached at least 3,345 people, including victims of MH17 flight.

As The Journalist reported, Militants continue to shell Ukrainian positions from prohibited weapons.
